A New Book and Another UFO

I finished this book – very good – the ending was a surprise – let me know if you like it. I could never wait my turn at the library to read a book if the wait was 2 years! No way, no how! I bought it on Amazon for about $14.

I started this book Saturday night and I’m loving it! I enjoyed his first two books so I’m hoping this one is just as good.

The UFO’s are never ending. I finished the blue and yellow quilt top and it’s waiting to be quilted. I have several that are waiting to be quilted! This is my next UFO – I wanted it to be bigger so I bought another charm pack – what was I thinking?

And I was cleaning today and found both of these small patriotic kits – if I start now, maybe I’ll be finished by Memorial Day.

Does anybody out there just LOVE old doilies? I am soaking these to clean them up and would be happy to mail them to one of you for the price of postage. Email me if you’re interested.

Connie made a really cute quilt last week – I’ll show you tomorrow along with all the info to make your own!

Back to cleaning! It’s 40 degrees and sunny – dogs are playing in the grove and the goats are soaking up the sun.

I LOVE old doilies and I don’t have any of them! My niece sometimes helps me vend at shows and informed me that I need some nice doilies to place around in my booth to make it look better!
I downloaded the Kristen Hanna book to my Kindle and will start it next.

I would love to have your doilies and am more than happy to pay postage for them. I have kept the doilies that were left from my grandmother and my husband’s grandmother. There is just something about them that is both decorative and useful. I have them all over my house. Please tell me how to send you the postage…..Paypal, check, whatever.

I love the fabrics in the flag pincushion kit….I see about 4 pieces of
Circa 1852, Collection for a Cause fabric and it is my very favorite fabric. Would you want to sell kit to me?

I have my grandmothers crocheted doilies and my idea is to someday hand sew them all down randomly on an old linen tablecloth so I can see them. Other than that I use a few around on tables but I want to touch and see them all. Anyone have other suggestions? Some lay them on top of curtain valances and I like that look too.

I loved the book too. I am familiar with that part of Alaska and found it to be factual geographically. It’s not often I read a novel that takes place in Alaska that I can believe the author actually visited the state. Everything Kristin writes is excellent.

Mary… Would you be able to share the name of the pattern you are using for the 30’s charm squares? Have a huge stash of 30’s and this would pattern would certainly help to use some of it up. Thanks.

Love the quilt; go ahead and add to it. I am binding a 102 x 108–I get it when you think it should be bigger!! Isn’t it fun to watch the goats and dogs running around and having fun? It’s warm in Central Ohio, too, about 58 degrees. I love doilies, but have many of my Nana’s.

What a great day- got a nice walk in since it’s 51 degrees. Do you think warm climates can truly appreciate a day like this when they haven’t been through gray and cold?! I get so much more done and am more cheerful when it’s sunny and warmer. I love snow, but not dark cold days.
    You will like that book.
My sister was just visiting from Maine and accused me of having a store of my own in my sewing room. Ha, she has one too. I saw a quote on Instagram the other day. This gal said I was put on this earth to sew and make things. I found that a very validating thought.
    Have a good one, Mary!

I made the small flag quilt with a kit from Country Threads. I love it. Thirties prints remind me of visits to my grandparents in Kansas. I am sure their quilts were made of feedback prints. Had I known you were in need of more prints, I would gladly have sent you some.My 30s tote is overflowing. I loved those books on Afghanistan. How is Reed’s quilt coming?

The UFO quilt will be a cute one. Even though you bought more fabric, at least the disappearing nine patch goes pretty quickly…doesn’t it?? I just returned from the long arm quilter with my mystery quilt. Now to get it bound in time for the retreat. I promised you a photo and I will get that to you after I bind it.

Mary, would you share the solution you used to soak the doilies. I have some, from my Grandmother, but they need to be “freshened up”. So glad that you have UFOs too! I have been focusing on finishing, rather than starting a new project!

I like the colors in your disappearing four patch. I have one started in purples, but it seems to be on the back burner for now. I like doing disappearing nine patch better.
