A Country’s Call- the Quilts

I have a couple new #5’s to show you and then it’s on to the quilts from the new book!

https://www.country-threads-chicken-scratch.com

There are several beginner level projects in this book and a couple advanced but mostly intermediate level – there’s some fun for everyone and the photography is outstanding!  The stories about the women “beyond the battlefield” continues with each project as it did in our previous book.

Release date is October 15 from Country Threads.  Send check or money order for $33 to Country Threads, 2345 Palm Ave. Garner, IA 50438.

The quilts look outstanding. Wish I could make all of them.
Thank you for the great preview!!
Everything came through with no problems. Only 1 ad to click on.

Oh, Mary. I promised myself NO more books even though I fell in love with the cover and now you show us what’s inside. Oh my. As a retired English teacher, I have so many books that my husband built me one of those Little Free Library that we put in front of our house. It is well used by all of the walkers in our neighborhood:) But, guess what? I will be ordering the book–I love it!! Thank you:)
We just returned from a vacation in Oregon. Wow–beautiful state:)

Who ever took the pictures of the quilts did a fabulous job. Not only are the quilts beautiful but the settings are great. Bravo!! I look forward to seeing the book in person.

I AM IN LOVE !!! If the book is 1/2 as good as photos , it will be fantastic. I know I have said it before but will say again I absolutely love the cover of this book ! The check is filled out, the envelope is addressed & will be put in the box tomorrow. Cook crockpot pulled pork using apple moonshine … this recipe is not only my new go to for pulled pork but don’t think will cook any other way again…and the alcohol cooks off leaving the most tender & flavorful pork. Wish you were here to enjoy pulled pork sandwich with broccoli slaw & an icy cold beer. Life is good!

Whoa! Doesn’t that sound good? I wish I was there, too. I see several have requested your recipe. Pork is so available here in Iowa and so reasonably priced that I’m always looking for a new way to cook it.

  5. Christina

Stunning!! Both #5s and the quilts in the new book !! I’m mailing my check tomorrow. I hope I live long enough to make all the quilts I am lusting over !!

  6. Nicole Hanson

The check and address label will be in the mail tomorrow! Many thanks to you and Connie.💙

Betty – the post office will not let us mail the book as media mail. They consider it advertising and this is how they say we have to mail it. Don’t order from us – Order from Amazon in Nov/Dec and use your Amazon Prime account and you’ll get free shipping.

Your book is amazing. I love it and need it, so I will send along a check very soon. I need it for inspiration when I look at the gorgeous photos.
The 2 # 5s are so good and very interesting. The blog seems to get better and better. Congrats!

PS Don’t let Mondays get ya down. Probably a grumpy one because of the humidity.

  9. Patricia

Wow! I can’t believe you two have a new book out already. When do you find the time with all the things you do Mary. I can barely keep my kitchen clean. Well the quilts are beautiful and I will be adding this book to my collection of patterns and books authored by you and Connie of quilts I’d love to do. I hope the cleanup is finished after your storm. Wind is so scary and dangerous. Gosh I am amazed at your productivity. Have a good week. Can’t figure out our weather – up and down. One thing I know is we need rain. Pat – in Md

I am embarrassed that this is so easy…let me start by saying that the recipe on the package itself is good but the tweak recipe using the seasoning is over the top good.

CROCK POT BBQ Pulled Pork Seasoning Mix , can find on line or in most grocery chains, if not contact company at website http://www.bgfoods.com or write POBox K, Roseland, NJ 07068

    Recipe -Apple Moonshine Pulled Pork

3 to 4 lb boneless Boston Butt-well trimmed
1 pkg Crock-Pot BBQ Pulled Pork Seasoning mix
1 onion (medium sized) thinly sliced
    1 jalapeño pepper thinly sliced
    1 tsp minced garlic
    1/2 cup ketchup
1/4 cup molasses (or can use 1/2 cup dark brown sugar)
    1/3 cup cider vinegar
    1 cup apple moonshine

    Bring pork to room temperature.
Trim pork & place in slow cooker
    Top with onion & jalapeño
Mix seasoning mix with remaining ingredients & pour over pork.
Cover & cook on high for 6 hours
DO NOT REMOVE COVER durning cooking.
After 6 hours remover pot & shred with 2 forks. Return meat to cooker & mix well with sauce in cooker. Keep warm until served.

I like serving this on either toasted buns or toasted Hawaii rolls, with cold slaw ( either cabbage slaw or broccoli slaw). Slaw can be on side or on sandwich.

    Hope ya’ll enjoy.

HI Mary, This is weird. A few of us replied to this post yesterday, but today, they do not show up. Are you seeing them on your end?

  17. Jane Dumler

Wonderful pictures from the book. I think I am going to need 36 hour days to get all the quilts made. Each book you write is more tantalizing! Oh the pulled pork sounds soooo good. Need that for a ranch supper soon. Thanks to you and Connie for the lovely book and especially to you Mary, for figuring out the mess the blog got into with the hacker and fixing it.

  18. Diane, Squeak's Mom

Well, after I posted that comment, all of yesterday’s comments showed up. Probably the problem is
at my end, not yours. Sorry.

    1. CountryThreads Post author

Diane – it’s all a mystery, isn’t it? I can’t answer why some people don’t get pictures or ads – I am at a loss and I’m actually hoping it’s on your end and not mine because I have no answers. Your trip sounded fun but isn’t it good to get home?

    2. Diane, Squeak's Mom

Ah, yes. And, our poor little Squeak was SO happy to see us, she woke us up every two hours just to be sure we were home–LOL!! She did better last night thank goodness.

  19. Marsha Ransom

Oh, my goodness! I didn’t need any more quilts to add to my list of things to make, but these are some seriously beautiful quilts! Gorgeous!

Thanks for sharing the pulled pork recipe – that sounds awesome, Nikki! Will try soon!

I need to retire so I can sew all day! LOL

  20. Kathy in western NY

What a wonderful post filled with inspiring quilt pictures. Everyone has done very nice work, including you and Connie for your new book. My check will be in the mail cause they are just too gorgeous not to try using my stash on.
Thanks Nicole for the crock pot recipe.

    1. CountryThreads Post author

Well, hallelujah! I’d hate to say for sure that the blog is ALL fixed but I’m making some progress.

  21. Barb K

What beautiful quilts in your new book!! It’s hard to pick a favorite (and I love how you have them photographed with all the interesting things in the background).

    1. CountryThreads Post author

Barb K – we can take no credit for the photography staging. Martingale excels in photography shoots and it shows – we absolutely love the cover photo!

  22. Valerie

There is one quilt pictured that I am very interested in. I can’t tell if it is part of your new book or not. Can you please tell me where to find that pattern? It is the 10th picture down from the top. The quilt hangs over a single log (top rail of a fence?) and it is made of mostly squares. Thank you.

    1. CountryThreads Post author

The quilt will be found in our new book “A Country’s Call” available from us for $33. Send check to address on home page. Book will be released mid-October.
